HOT ON THE SPOT! — Recently the potential hack on one of the major online affair/dating website has left its users devastated. The information has been posted in downloadable format on different websites and the way the dating company is trying to pull it down is by using legal enforcement through DMCA “Digital Millennium Copyright Act”. Where it seems like an easy solution to enforce website owners to remove copyrighted content, it is still a risky game.
If you are a website owner and you think that you can use text, graphics and pictures off Google images or from some other website.. I suggest you to do your due diligence before you do so. The reason why I say that is because the information that you are trying to copy off the internet might be somebody’s intellectual property or trademark and sometimes even their bread and butter – especially photographers.
Remember unless it is stated on the website you copy text from that the content is for free use for commercial purpose, it is never a good idea to steal! Wondering about the consequences…? Major lawsuits filed under DMCA notices and blacklisting by search engines. Where you don’t want your website content to be copied by someone else, same applies to you. Guess what.. it hurts!
