Mental Wellness—feeling good about ourselves, our relationships, and our future—is vital to our cognitive, emotional and social well-being.
It is also crucial for our longevity and physical health. It is about prevention; managing life’s adversity; being resilient when we face stress, worry, fear, doubt, loneliness, envy, anger, pain, and sadness. Mental wellness also includes our ability to make wise choices and maintain our enthusiasm, motivation and inspiration.
Studies have shown depression, for example, increases the risk for many types of physical health issues, particularly long-lasting conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
We are 5 months into our 12-month journey on self-sabotage. In essence, what we are doing on this 12-month journey is to bring internal self-awareness—creating a mental shift; a shift where you face yourself. Although most of us believe that we are self-aware, true self-awareness is an uncommon quality.
Research has shown that introspection does not always improve self-awareness. Most introspectors are clear on who they are, but fall short when it comes to challenging their own views. This can prove harmful to their well-being, health, relationships and limit their success.
This 12-month journey on self-sabotage is to help you take one step at a time towards your goals, one pick at a time at the “iceberg” standing in your way, to challenge the limiting beliefs, negative views, and unhealthy thinking and behavioural patterns holding you back.
As we know, an ice pick is a tool used to break up, pick at, or chip at ice. In like manner, we are partnering with you in a thought-provoking and creative process to inspire you to get to the root cause of why you are sabotaging your relationship, marriage, friendships, career, finances, health (mental and physical)—your happiness (personal and professional potential), and to begin shifting your mindset; changing your perspective through mind management.
We cannot always change what happens to us, but we can always change our perspective.
Awareness is incredibly powerful to help us change!
Consequently, self-care is not vanity; it truly is sanity! It is definitely not selfishness but selflessness! Huh! Selflessness? Yes, you have read correctly! By taking care of yourself, you become the person you were born to be (created to be) for your family, friends, relationship, culture, society, career, and yourself.
Of course, mental wellness does not mean being happy all the time. It definitely does not mean you will not experience painful and negative emotions, such as grief, loss, or failure, which are a part of life. At any age, mind management can help you have a mentally and physically healthier life and improve your well-being.
Many people find it difficult to make major life changes—to change careers, to change habits or patterns, to change lifestyles, to move out of their comfort zone and into their new life. Many feel safe in their old patterns. Life is a journey, and on our journey we learn, we heal, we grow, we teach. The purpose of this 12-month journey on self-sabotage is to help you make gradual changes that will bring you within reach of what you want to experience for yourself.
To enjoy this journey, you need only to take one step at a time, but you must keep moving forward.
Often times, we are unable to see possibilities around us because of fear, negativity, confusion, wrong assumptions and limiting beliefs. We need only expand our awareness to get unstuck and stop the self-sabotage.
When experiencing the pain of feeling stuck you may have asked yourself or contemplated these very thoughts, shared them with a close friend or even implored God to shed some light to better understand:
- Why do I keep undermining my own efforts to succeed in my career, my relationships or other areas of my life with these negative thoughts and behaviours?
- What the hell is wrong with me?
- Why can’t I stop this bad habit?
- I need to move my life forward. But why am I so afraid?
- I need to create healthy boundaries. But why is it so hard?
- There must be more to life than this.
- Help me, God!
A helpful tool we often encourage our clients to use to improve their mental wellness and set them on a course to getting out of the rut they’ve been in is Our Sacred Space 21-Day Challenge. It is a 21-day repetitive cycle consisting of small actionable steps designed to help challenge existing limiting beliefs and improve mental and physical wellness.
To change our automatic thinking (those negative thoughts that appear without much effort on our part), we need to consciously choose new ways of dealing with our issue or situation, and begin to rewire the brain through repetitive action.
The burning questions now are…Do you want to:
- bring awareness on the importance of breaking free from holding patterns in your life and stopping the Rabbit Hole Effect?
- understand the impact of your sense of worth on your mental and physical well-being, the choices you make, and your ability to cope with life’s experiences?
- shift out of the negative self-critiquing into a more empowering dialogue with yourself?
- create healthy boundaries to understand what you want and need from your different relationships, your need for space, how important this need is to you, and the benefits of setting healthy boundaries?
As you step out of your comfort zone, there will be a lot of “noise”—fears, doubts, worries, jealousy, offenses—that can consume and paralyze you. This is why you need to declutter your mental space—clear out the clutter, and guard your mind.
Fear cannot stay where faith is.
Discouragement cannot stay where hope is.
Stress cannot stay where peace is.
Mediocrity cannot stay where greatness is.
An uncluttered mind is a powerful force!
“Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.”
