Key Assets Ontario, partnering with the Children’s Aid Societies, Child and Family Service Agencies and Community-based Organizations, provides foster care services for children and young people aged 0-18 years old at local and provincial levels. We offer high quality placements in a family setting and related support services to help children and young people achieve their full potential.
Our “Team Parenting” approach offers a healing and holistic support system for the whole fostering family, including individualized Child & Youth Counsellors for every young person, Foster Support Workers for every foster parent, and an Educational Liaison and Therapist. Our extensive and on-going trainings are provided to foster families to enhance their knowledge and refine their skill set. We also offer life-skills development, recreational and social skills activities and different types of trainings for our children and young people, including preparation for independence for our older aged youth.
Here are some of the qualities we are seeking in well-qualified foster parents:
♥You must be over the age of 21
♥You must have a spare bedroo
♥You must have a valid driver’s license, and regular access to a reliable vehicle
♥A stay-at-home parent is preferred, however if you are currently working, your schedule must be flexible enough to accommodate the needs and varying schedules of our young people
♥We hope you have the “stickability” to weather the storms with children who need a safe and stable place to thrive
We are also pleased to present our inaugural conference-style event and luggage drive called Handle With Care on May 17th, 2017. Shenandoah Chefalo, author of the autobiographical Garbage Bag Suitcase, which speaks about her experiences in the system, having to abruptly move in the middle of the night, most times shoving all of her belongings into garbage bags, will be our Keynote Speaker! We will also have a panel of industry professionals host a Q & A. And, in lieu of an entrance fee to attend, we will be asking each participant to donate a piece of luggage. Our hope is that we can create a stockpile of pieces so children in our care have the proper means to move in to (or out of) their foster homes.
If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, or would like to learn more information about our upcoming Handle With Care event, please contact Key Assets at 905-279-4500 or www.keyassets.ca.
Every journey begins with a single step!
