Filmmaker Atom Egoyan’s creepily chilling character study Guest of Honour follows a food inspector as he zeroes in on a couple running a restaurant. Egoyan once owned an eatery on Toronto’s Queen St West strip and the experience inspired this strange tale. Thewlis’ extraordinary performance as a man seeking revenge is quietly devastating and the universe Egoyan created, unforgettable. I spoke with Egoyan and Thewlis at TIFF.
